Trigger points, also known as “knots” or myofascial trigger points, form when the muscle fibers become tight and contracted, leading to pain and discomfort.
Trigger Points are small bump like areas (the size of a pea or feel as big as a golf ball) that can be painful to the touch and cause pain in other areas, known as referral pain.
These knots or trigger points develop in the muscles fibers usually due to trauma or overuse. Trigger Points can be very painful and decrease range of motion.
I found this great short video with animation that explains and shows how a trigger point develops and the effects.
With proper care, including stretching, trigger point release, and strengthening exercises, you can effectively manage and reduce the symptoms of trigger points.
