Why Am I Dizzy After A Massage?

Becoming dizzy after a massage is quite common as the massage treatment is likely to reduce blood pressure. Make sure to rest for 30 seconds to a minute before getting up, then slowly sit up swinging your legs over the side of the table, stay there for a few moments – making sure you have your bearing straight before standing up. Your therapist should return with some water, this will also help you feel better.

If you do experience any lightheadedness during the massage, make sure to let your therapist know. They should be able to check your blood pressure. It’s also a good idea to check with your doctor, as there could be another possible cause, most commonly would be hypotension or low blood pressure.

Here’s a good resource that goes deeper into potential causes of becoming light headed after a massage

If you get up too quick after a massage, your blood may not have enough time to catch up with you and can all rush to your head causing dizziness.

Overall, if you take your time getting up after a massage, you shouldn’t experience any dizziness or it shouldn’t last very long. Just make sure you take your time, sit back down, have some water and make sure you’re feeling alright before driving or leaving.
